Rinpoche’s public teaching in London, “Enlightened Courage,” can be watched as a streaming video recording. Rinpoche began the July 10 teaching by talking about the importance of the mind for creating happiness. He discussed how Dharma practice is the best psychology and how it can create the best healthy mind. If you don’t take care of your mind, if you use it like garbage, Rinpoche warned, then nothing pleasant results in this life and in future lives.

“The key thing is the mind,” Rinpoche said. “Happiness, you switch life to happiness or you switch mind to suffering. Like TV, which channel you want? Some war and fighting, or something very beautiful, countryside, something peaceful, people enjoying. What you do with your mind, its like that. So everything is about the mind.”

Rinpoche went on to teach about bodhichitta, Lama Atisha and lam-rim practice. He shared a Tibetan saying: “The turtle perseveres slowly, goes very slowly, but reaches there. Whereas the flea jumps, is jumping, but doesn’t reach far.” He explained that perserverance and continouity are very important to Dharma practice. Rinpoche also discussed karma.

The public teaching was organized by Jamyang Buddhist Centre in London. Rinpoche’s teaching in Leeds are also available as video recordings.

In May 2014, Lama Zopa Rinpoche went to the beach in California to bless all the sentient beings in the ocean. Ven. Thubten Kunsang recorded a video of the beach visit.

Last year, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Dagri Rinpoche and about 100 students went to a local wharf near Kachoe Dechen Ling in California to bless the sentient beings in the ocean. Like on many other occasions, they lowered the embossed Namgyälma mantra boards into the water, but this time state park rangers asked them to leave because they did not have the required permit.

The next day, the Lama Yeshe Wisdom Archive reports, Rinpoche wanted to send this letter:

I, Lama Zopa Rinpoche, Spiritual Director of 161 centers in 31 countries and the Buddhist Sangha from Kachoe Dechen Ling, Aptos, California, seek permission to bless the ocean off the Seacliff State Park wharf.

Just as the fisher people get permission, we also request the state parks for this permission. Within this great democratic country, which gives so much happiness to others, please grant permission to bless the ocean and liberate all the animals and fish in the ocean, to free them from the suffering of rebirth, old age, sickness and death, and to help them achieve total liberation from suffering and attain the state of omniscient mind, the peerless happiness. Attached are a few photos of the mantra board which we use to bless the ocean.

Thank you very much for your time.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche,
FPMT Spiritual Director

In addition to The Heart of Our Happiness, a short documentary reflecting on ABC’s growth and accomplishments over 25 years, students watched Thank You, ABC Family!  Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s hour-long special message to ABC students and supporters.

Amitabha Buddhist Centre offers the broader FPMT community Thank You, ABC Family!  as a subtitled video so that others can benefit from Rinpoche’s warm greetings and inspiring advice:

On the morning of June 14, His Holiness spoke on how on a basic level all human beings are the same. “His Holiness then remembered the great contributions from the learned scholars of Nalanda University in India such as Shantarakshita, Kamalashila and Dharmakirti,” DalaiLama.com reported. ”He said that Nalanda was not just a monastery but a great learning center. He expressed happiness that Tibetans have kept the Nalanda tradition alive having translated all major Nalanda teachings and commentaries into Tibetan. VIDEO: Day 5 of His Holiness’ Visit to Italy

“I had a very memorable visit here in Italy. It is now time to say goodbye, not just to Italy, but to this heat,” His Holiness said, as reported by DalaiLama.com. “We are separating for the time being but in spirit we are together. We will remain friends until our death. Everyone please realize that the ultimate source of our happiness is within oneself, and does not depend on outside sources. So please pay more attention to inner moral values. Please keep this in mind.”

His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave a teaching on Saka Dawa, Friday, June 13, at Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa (ILTK) in Italy. He also blessed a newly restored 16-foot (5-meter) tall Chenrezig statute. The statue had been part of the set for the movie Kundun and was beautifully restored by community members at ILTK.

You can watch a short documentary of day four of the events at ILTK, including the blessing of the Chenrezig statue. Dalai Lama Italia has produced several beautiful videos of His Holiness’ visit.

His Holiness taught on the importance of developing love and compassion as well as on the value of philosophical study and of educating children. Education is a central aspect of ILTK’s program. FPMT’s seven-year Masters Program has been offered twice at the center. The intensive residential study program will be offered again at ILTK beginning in 2015.

During His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa (ILTK) this week, filmmakers have created beautiful videos documenting the event. The short videos, available on the Dalai Lama Italy YouTube channel, show an up-close view of His Holiness during his stay at the center and a behind-the-scenes look at the event preparations.

His Holiness arrived at ILTK on Tuesday, June 10, and is giving a teaching there on compassion and the importance of philosophical study in spiritual practice on Saka Dawa, June 13. His Holiness then teaches in nearby Livorno on the “Wisdom of Compassion” on June 14-15.

The video “Backstage-Day 3″ shows the preparations that went into creating the press conference with His Holiness on Thursday, June 12. (You can also watch the video of the entire press conference on YouTube.)

The short video on Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa, which was founded in 1977 and is the oldest FPMT center in Europe, offers an informal tour of the stunning center and its picturesque surroundings in the Tuscany region of Italy. Organizers have also posted photos from the events at ILTK on Flickr.

Perhaps more than anything else, these videos illustrate the amazing amount of work, love and joy that go hand-in-hand with hosting an event with His Holiness. For that, we can rejoice in what is being offered and experienced by all who come into contact with the events and teachings.
