      • Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition

The FPMT is an organization devoted to preserving and spreading Mahayana Buddhism worldwide by creating opportunities to listen, reflect, meditate, practice and actualize the unmistaken teachings of the Buddha and based on that experience spreading the Dharma to sentient beings. We provide integrated education through which people’s minds and hearts can be transformed into their highest potential for the benefit of others, inspired by an attitude of universal responsibility and service. We are committed to creating harmonious environments and helping all beings develop their full potential of infinite wisdom and compassion. Our organization is based on the Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsongkhapa of Tibet as taught to us by our founders Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.

    • Willkommen

P1170813Osel Hita (right of Lama Zopa Rinpoche) with FPMT Board members.Just got back home last night after a very long 24 hour journey across the planet! Went to Santa Cruz, California, for two weeks to attend the FPMT board meeting. It has been a great reunion and the result is huge! Many things are moving on very positively and we are hoping that this starts to expand throughout the organization. We appreciate so much all the work done by every single person in the organization. They are the “F” for “Foundation” in the FPMT.

So again, I wanted to thank all of you for your hard work, your perseverance, and your Big Love!

Very happy to be part of this amazing movement for humanity’s improvement as a whole, starting from each individual!

Onelove family!

Thank you!

Occasionally Osel Hita shares his thoughts and experiences on his Facebook page. In this update, he discusses the evolution of our specials and updates us on the condition of his mother, Maria.

be oneHello, Everybody! Long time no talk! So here we are! It has been a great full moon, and the energies are so strong! We can all feel how change is moving faster. We are evolving at incredible speed as a species in this last century, and now in this decade, even faster. Technology has surpassed expectations since the industrial revolution.

And where are we as individuals? Is this a turning point in history?

I’m just glad to be alive, even though I don’t fully understand the big picture. Just being here and having the capacity to decide over my actions, is enough to learn and improve.

Whatever is going to happen, will happen.

So let us learn to be better people while we are at it, and if the world has to implode, at least we tried!

My mother, Maria, is already walking and enjoying her new life after 24 years with a kidney tumor. When they took it out, it weighed around 1 kilo (750 grams). It is crazy! The tumor had veins the size of a thumb!

Now she is so much better, it is quite a difference. She is already gaining weight, has a lot of energy, and is much happier than before. We are all so glad she finally decided to go through with the operation.

And she definitely felt the energies coming from all over the world. It went very smoothly, thank you all so very much!

Well take care family, and talk soon!

Occasionally Osel Hita shares his thoughts and experiences on his Facebook page. In this update, he discusses the meaning of happiness.

heartMany times i ask myself, “What is happiness?” Why is it so important? But you know… it is a bit of a metaphor. If it existed as we imagine, it would be a state of mind, right? Being continuously happy … is that possible for small potatoes like ourselves? It reminds me a bit of the carrot on a stick held by a guy on the donkey, and the poor animal goes after the carrot thinking it will reach it soon. Happiness as we know it, comes to us when we are satisfied with our actions, it is like a present from life that rewards us because we’ve worked hard for that satisfaction, and it lasts the duration of that sensation. But what next? What I see more possible for us to achieve is: Non-unhappiness. It can be continuous, it can spread and create harmony. Stable and easier to reach.. And once we find Non-unhapiness as a state of mind, we can start seeing happiness as a more possible equation. Emaho!!

Osel’s Letter for the FPMT Annual Review 2011

Read all posts in Osel Hita News.

The following, from Osel, was included in FPMT’s Annual Review, February 2011:

2011 was a great year for me. I was able to travel so much and had the opportunity to become involved in many FPMT activities.

I was thrilled to be able to meet many old friends and to make so many new friendships too.

From my home in Ibiza, Spain, I traveled to California for an FPMT Board meeting in March.
In April together with Gomo Tulku I traveled to Australia to visit Lama Zopa Rinpoche who was in the initial stages of recovering from his stroke.

In July I traveled to Kopan with Karuna Cayton. I very much wanted to visit Khensur Rinpoche Lama Lhundrup whose health was declining.

It turned out to be a great visit. Lama Zopa Rinpoche requested me to speak to the assembly of nuns at the nunnery and then to all the monks at the monastery. I was very happy with the visit and connected very well with the monks and nuns.

In August I was able to direct the filming of a documentary on Universal Wisdom Education (UWE) along with Matteo Passigato and other crew members. The filming took place at Vajrayogini Institute in France during the first international gathering of UWE which was attended by individuals and families from all over the world. The documentary is currently in the stage of “director’s final cut.”

In November I traveled with my partner Mai, and brother Kunkyen to India. We stayed in my former home Osel Labrang at Sera Monastery.

I was invited to address the Kopan monks at Sera and was able to spend time with my teacher, Geshe Genden Chomphel, and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. From Sera we traveled onto Bodhgaya to attend the Kalachakra initiation given by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in January 2012.

In between my travels, I have been developing a number of business concepts I hope will contribute to FPMT’s long-term sustainability.

So many people welcomed and helped me everywhere I went and I really thank everyone especially those I didn’t get to thank personally. I am looking forward to being much more in touch with everyone who has been helping me over the years, and I am so happy to be available to help wherever I can in the future.

Big love,

Osel

Lama Zopa Rinpoche is such an inspiration and someday he will have private time for himself. Up until now he has dedicated all of his time to others, we have to give him space so he can rest. Given his situation now, I think it is important to be aware of that.

Things evolve slowly, slowly. We’re all trying to reach as many people as possible through different ways, not just through this organization, but other ways also. One of my jobs is to reach people who are not Buddhist, people who will never pick up a book, people who never even think of meditating, for example. As things evolve we have to also adapt to those changes which don’t have to necessarily be bad. In the long run it can be positive too, we all learn from our mistakes in the long run.

There are many different levels of helping others that FPMT is working on. Like in the collective memory each individual works for themselves, each of us has to do our own thing, whether or not we are doing it for someone else we have to do it for ourselves. We are all connected, the real guru is inside ourselves, no one can give you the truth. You have to find your own truth and that’s your guru. The same way just like when Lama Yeshe passed away and people are still attached to that image of Lama Yeshe that will never exist again, things change and we have to adapt. We have to help ourselves in the end, only we can do that, in the end it depends only on ourselves. The regional thing [the establishment of FPMT regional offices] is to come together so we can all help each other grow and make the organization last as long as possible so we can expand and do what we have to do in order to reach people so they can help themselves.

Message from Osel Hita February 27, 2012

Read all posts in Osel Hita News.

Occasionally Osel Hita shares his thoughts and experiences on his Facebook page. In this update, he discusses the concept of time and how to make life meaningful.

blueTime is a concept, but it exists just like the light which is information that helps us see what surrounds us most of the time. Time helps us perceive the change within us and around us. Time can be broken up into pieces, just like a cake. It is infinite either way. You can break it up into tiny moments which could be like a hundredth of a second. Or expand it to hours or days, even light years.

The fact is, change is what keeps everything moving and existing in the cycle of life. We manage to cope with it through the concept time. It is just one more human invention, but it rules the world. We are slaves to our watch. If we can divide the time into fruitful experiences where we can feel we are progressing and doing something meaningful with our lives, or dedicate it to something which is not so clear, but at least it brings food to the table, which is part of survival, then we can say that we are satisfied with our day, because we spent our time doing something fruitful. Either way, it is part of life, and we are working on our individual self which evolves as we go through our life. Each time you need to rest just go back to that infinite time within us where nothing hinders us, nothing can penetrate that secret alcove of peace we each have within us. That helps us relax and be able to reconnect with whatever we have to be dedicated to at that moment. Each of us knows what we are doing, and whether we like it or not, it is something we’ve chosen. So whenever we reach a crossroad, sit down, relax, go back deep inside, feel that inner pure energy which keeps you moving every day and you will know which path to take every time.

Letter from Osel June 2009

Dear Friends,

It is important to have a good experience of what life is. I have been really lucky to be able to experience both western and eastern cultures and I am so grateful to everyone who has helped me in both cultures.  In combination, being in India and the West has been a rich experience that I’ve been privileged to absorb from both sides.

There were times in India when it was hard to accept the destiny. Being treated differently, and feeling apart. But that experience was really good and I so appreciate it.

Experience shows that however hard one tries in interviews to sincerely and honestly convey key information, the printed result can tend towards sensationalism to get the most attention.

FPMT is doing a great job and Lama Zopa is an immensely special person – very inspiring and a great yogi.

Personally, my job is to find new ways in which to discover the true nature of our being. There is no separation between myself and FPMT – we are all working together in so many aspects and terrains. Humanity is our office. Besides, I don’t really qualify very much in Buddhist studies, because I didn’t finish them, so working together is the clue.

So I’m trying to find a different way for this future generation. One of the ways is through music, movies and audio-visual techniques. In a movie you can condense so many different stories. You can put in music, you can put in different situations and messages. Even just the sunset can be enough to give you peace to find a moment of meditation in yourself. There are so many different millions of possibilities in movies.

And not just movies, but documentaries actually going somewhere and interviewing people who may have reached a level on their path where they are at peace with themselves, and so much more….!!!

That’s kind of what I’m planning to do. But it is one thing is to plan and another for things to actually happen. So we’re back to mental projections. But for now, that’s what I am hoping to do.

Big Love

Osel

Osel’s Letter for the FPMT Annual Review 2009

Read all posts in Osel Hita News.

The following, from Osel, was included in FPMT’s Annual Review, February 2009:

Lama Yeshe taught really well on so many aspects of life, religion, Buddhism, your mind, and the interior universe we all have. One of the things he taught was impermanence and how we all change; how we take form and leave that form, change energies and change dimensions.

You cannot really project your expectations onto anybody or fantasize about the future, because that’s only hurting yourself, deceiving yourself. You have to find your own true teacher inside yourself.

Anybody can say “I found the truth. Come and take it.” But it’s not going to work, because we each have our own truth that we all have to find. Full moonlight shining in the middle of a dark forest can help you find your way, but it’s not THE way. Many people think the light is the path, but you’re not going to the moon; you’re trying to get out of the forest. The full moon just helps you find your way.

Some people seem to expect that because this is Lama Yeshe’s reincarnation, then he’s going to be just like Lama Yeshe. But today is not like being in Tibet many years ago, or even when the hippies were in Nepal and India in the 1970s. The world has changed a bit, and so I’m trying to find a different way of communicating. One of the ways is through music, movies, and audio visual techniques. In a movie, you can condense so many different stories. You can put in music; you can put in different situations and messages. Even just the sunset can be enough to give you some peace and help you find a moment for meditation. There are so many millions of possibilities.

It is one thing to plan and another for things to actually happen, but for now, that’s what I am hoping to do.

I’m really, really grateful for all the help everyone gave me. Thank you for all the support and help.

Update about Osel for the FPMT Annual Review 2006

Read all posts in Osel Hita News.

Ven. Roger Kunsang gave the following update about Osel for the 2006 FPMT Annual Review:

In September, we had a surprise visit from Osel. He suddenly appeared in Aptos, California at Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s house – actually, he was on summer vacation. We spent a few days together, and Osel spent a lot of time talking with Rinpoche about Dharma and his experiences of the last few years. He also met some of Lama Yeshe’s older students, and stayed with Karuna Cayton.

Osel said he was awed by Rinpoche’s house, and the “vibe of the holy objects.” In conversation with me he said “I am creating my world, FPMT is doing well creating its world, later we will merge my world and FPMT.”

Osel was very happy with the visit, and so were we, especially Rinpoche; we all felt we connected again.

Osel’s parting advice to me with a hug was “No matter what bad things people say or do to you… just give love!”

Long Life Prayer

Read all posts in Osel Hita News.

It is customary to make prayers (pujas) for the long life of those considered to have potential to greatly benefit others.

Previously there were references on this site to long life prayers for Tenzin Ösel Hita.

In this regard, while Ösel hugely appreciates any positive thoughts in his direction, he suggests that an individual 10 minutes of single-pointed concentration meditation without thought will benefit everyone the most.
