Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition
The FPMT is an organization devoted to preserving and spreading Mahayana Buddhism worldwide by creating opportunities to listen, reflect, meditate, practice and actualize the unmistaken teachings of the Buddha and based on that experience spreading the Dharma to sentient beings. We provide integrated education through which people’s minds and hearts can be transformed into their highest potential for the benefit of others, inspired by an attitude of universal responsibility and service. We are committed to creating harmonious environments and helping all beings develop their full potential of infinite wisdom and compassion. Our organization is based on the Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsongkhapa of Tibet as taught to us by our founders Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche expressed the wish that FPMT continue offering Buddha statues to His Holiness the Dalai Lama periodically, and we are committed to fulfilling this request by offering one hundred statues each year on auspicious occasions.
The moment holy objects such as statues of Buddha are completed, they become a field of merit for all sentient beings — only a cause for happiness. Holy objects also help sentient beings purify negative karma and create the causes for happiness and extensive merit, bringing them to enlightenment.
Creating and offering Buddha statues is extremely auspicious and a deeply meaningful offering to His Holiness, as he gives these statues to people who come to visit him.
Two thousand one hundred statues offered

We rejoice that a total of 2,100 statues of Shakyamuni Buddha have now been offered to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. In 2019, Lama Zopa Rinpoche offered 1,000 Buddha statues to His Holiness. In 2023, FPMT offered a further 1,000 statues during the long life puja offered to His Holiness. In 2025, another 100 statues were offered during the long life puja held in honor of His Holiness’s 90th birthday.
FPMT is now committed to offering 100 Shakyamuni Buddha statues to His Holiness each year.
Each statue is created in Nepal and carefully gilded in gold, filled with mantras, painted, and consecrated.
By making any offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, you are making offerings to all the buddhas and numberless bodhisattvas. This generates limitless skies of merit — every day and every second.

By maintaining this close connection with His Holiness, all of our future lives will be like the sun shining. We will always be in the company of buddhas and achieve the highest realizations. This becomes the cause to achieve greater accomplishments and offer more extensive benefit to sentient beings in this and future lives.
The Offering Buddha Statues to His Holiness the Dalai Lama fund is a sub-fund of the Holy Objects Fund, a project of FPMT Inc., and is administered by FPMT International Office located in Portland, Oregon, United States. All donations made to this fund are tax-deductible within the United States in accordance with IRS Code article 501(c)(3) to the extent allowed by law.
