Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition
The FPMT is an organization devoted to preserving and spreading Mahayana Buddhism worldwide by creating opportunities to listen, reflect, meditate, practice and actualize the unmistaken teachings of the Buddha and based on that experience spreading the Dharma to sentient beings. We provide integrated education through which people’s minds and hearts can be transformed into their highest potential for the benefit of others, inspired by an attitude of universal responsibility and service. We are committed to creating harmonious environments and helping all beings develop their full potential of infinite wisdom and compassion. Our organization is based on the Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsongkhapa of Tibet as taught to us by our founders Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.

April 2023 Teachings at Kopan MonasteryVenue: Kopan Monastery, Nepal Lama Zopa Rinpoche offered four teachings at Kopan Monastery on April 7, 8, and 9 before leaving for Tsum Valley on April 10. As we now all know, Rinpoche showed the aspect of passing away on April 13, and as such, these teachings are particularly precious as they are the last organized and recorded teachings Rinpoche offered in this life. Three of these teachings were to students attending the 2023 Vajrasattva retreat at Kopan during this time. Kopan Monastery traditionally hosts a Vajrasattva retreat every year, providing an opportunity for up to twenty participants to engage in this extremely meritorious practice. The retreatants aspire to achieve 100,000 recitations of the Vajrasattva mantra in four daily sessions over the course of three months. On April 8, in addition to the teaching offered to the Vajrasattva retreatants, Rinpoche also gave the White Tara Practice Oral Transmission and Visualization to Glen H. Mullin and a group of his students. |
Four Kadam Deities retreat 2003Venue: Institute Vajra Yogini, France From 18 April to 11 May 2003 Lama Zopa Rinpoche gave extensive teachings during the 4-Kadam-Deities-retreat in Institute Vajra Yogini, France. The retreat was on the four Kadampa deities, however, Rinpoche teaches on a broad range of lamrim topics. |
Teachings from Tara Institute Melbourne 2006Venue: Tara Institute, Melbourne, Australia Lama Zopa Rinpoche gave a total of four hours of teachings during this day. He extensively taught on emptiness and emphasised the application of this understanding in daily life. Other topics covered include Bodhichitta and the practice and purpose of guru devotion. |

Teachings from the Kopan Nov Course 2015Venue: Kopan Monastery, Kathmandu, Nepal Rinpoche gave teachings at the end of the annual Kopan November one month course. The full length recordings are available both as streaming video and mp3 downloads. |
Teachings from the Bay Area, USA 2015Venue: various centers in the Bay Area Lama Zopa Rinpoche visited various centers in the Bay Area in November 2015 and gave public talks, teachings and initiations. The tour started at Tse Chen Ling, San Francisco, where he gave a teaching on Teaching on the Wheel of Life and a Lama Tsongkhapa long life initiation. He continued at Vajrapani Institute, where he gave a public talk titled “Patience as Protection, Emptiness as Liberation” and a Vajrapani/Hayagriva/Garuda initiation. The tour concluded at Gyalwa Gyatso (Ocean of Compassion) Buddhist Center with a teaching titled ‘Finding True Happiness’. |
Teachings from Brazil 2015Venue: Centro Shiwa Lha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s teachings given at Centro Shiwa Lha during their three day lam-rim retreat. The teachings were titled “Compassion in a Hostile World”. Rinpoche also gave a public talk at the Botanical garden, where he gave extensive advice on practices to perform for Brazil as a whole. |
Teachings from Colombia 2015Venue: Centro Yamantaka, Bogota, Colombia During his visit of Bogota Lama Zopa Rinpoche gave a public talk at the El Bosque university and teachings at Centro Yamantaka during their three day lam-rim retreat. Teachings from Mexico 2015Venue: Centro Khamlungpa, Guadalajara, Mexico Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s gave extensive teachings at the “Essence of Nectar” lam-rim retreat in Guadalajara. The retreat was hosted by Centro Khamlungpa and took place at an external venue, lasting a whole week. |
Teachings from New York 2015Venue: Shantideva Center, New York, USA Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s teachings given August 21 to August 28, 2015 at Shantideva Center. The teachings were titled “Opening the door to liberation”. |

Teachings from Australia 2015Venue: various FPMT centers in Australia Lama Zopa Rinpoche toured Australia in May and June 2015. Rinpoche started by visiting De-Tong-Ling on Kangaroo island, where he consecrated the stupa. Then he visited Buddha House in Adelaide on May 30 and 31 giving teachings on “Making the Most of your Life” and a Medicine Buddha Initiation. He then travelled to Sydney to Vajrayana Institute where he gave teachings on “How to Apply Dharma in Daily Life”. He also gave a public talk on Karma at Minh Dang Quang Temple. |
