      • Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition

The FPMT is an organization devoted to preserving and spreading Mahayana Buddhism worldwide by creating opportunities to listen, reflect, meditate, practice and actualize the unmistaken teachings of the Buddha and based on that experience spreading the Dharma to sentient beings. We provide integrated education through which people’s minds and hearts can be transformed into their highest potential for the benefit of others, inspired by an attitude of universal responsibility and service. We are committed to creating harmonious environments and helping all beings develop their full potential of infinite wisdom and compassion. Our organization is based on the Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsongkhapa of Tibet as taught to us by our founders Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.

    • Willkommen

New Advice:

FPMT Mission Statement:
Lama Zopa Rinpoche wished to update the FPMT Mission Statement in order to make it clear that FPMT’s mission of preserving the Mahayana tradition includes listening to correct teachings of the Buddha, then reflecting, meditating on, practicing and actualizing those teachings – and then with that experience, spreading the teachings to sentient beings.

The FPMT Inc Board has now finalized the edits, so we are delighted to share the updated FPMT Mission Statement.

Peace in the World:

Extensive Advice on Practices to Dispel Fire:
Last month, Lama Zopa Rinpoche offered advice regarding the wildfires that were burning in Washington State, US, close to a number of students’ homes. We’ve combined that advice with advice which Rinpoche gave in 2007 so you have a complete set of Rinpoche’s advice on practices to do in case of fire. Find this and other advice from Rinpoche for natural disasters.

Find a wide range of advice from Lama Zopa Rinpoche on Rinpoche’s Advice page. Go to the Lama Yeshe Wisdom Archive for lots more advice from Lama Zopa Rinpoche.

Un Nouveau Livret en Français: Les Voeux de Bodhisattvas:

Benefit Beings Whenever They Pass under Your Door

Lama Zopa Rinpoche reminds us that beings only receive the benefit of Purifying the Cause of Samsara – Above the Door Mantra Card if they walk directly underneath the mantra on the card. With that in mind, we recommend that you print out the mantra card large enough, or, acquire a sufficient number of pre-printed mantra cards, to take up the width of the door frame. Download the poster version here.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche Bodhichitta Fund
Supports Nepal Buddhist Federation

Members of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism – Nyingma, Kagyü, Sakya and Gelug – formed an umbrella organization called the Nepal Buddhist Federation (NBF) in 2006, a first in the history of the Nalanda tradition. Since its formation, the NBF has engaged in many activities. Kopan Monastery has been very involved, with many senior monks serving as members.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche, through the Lama Zopa Rinpoche Bodhichitta Fund, recently made an offering toward the organization of a regular broadcast of Dharma teachings on television and radio in Nepal. Additionally, support was offered to NBF’s Rimé Chirim Tendo Chenmo Monlam, a prayer festival for Saka Dawa. Four hundred Sangha members were invited from each of the four schools and breakfast, lunch and dinner were offered to each along with a small offering. All four schools contributed to these projects, demonstrating growing harmony within Tibetan Buddhism.

Updated “FPMT: Mission, Motive and Spirit” Chapter

Do read the updated “FPMT: Mission, Motive and Spirit” chapter of the FPMT Handbook, which also includes the revised FPMT Mission Statement and new information and quotes from Lama Zopa Rinpoche to help us understand FPMT’s mission. You can read the chapter alone, download and print it, or read it as part of the full FPMT Handbook. (For Spanish speakers, “FPMT : misión, razón y espíritu del Manual de la FPMT.”)
