By eliminating the self-pitying imagination of ego, you go beyond fear. All fear and other self-pitying emotions come from holding a self-pitying image of yourself.

2026 FPMT Global MANI Retreat

Resources | Online Teachings and Group Practice | Retreat in Mongolia | Mantra Report | FAQ
One of Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s Vast Visions for the FPMT organization was to hold 100 Million Mani retreats.
“This is one of my dreams, to have 100 Million Mani Retreats each year and for it to continue forever, even after I die, even after the people living now die. Those who are working, offering service now—to continue even after they die; to continue for as long as the country exists.” — Lama Zopa Rinpoche
The regional and national coordinators of FPMT are working with FPMT International Office to support a GLOBAL MANI RETREAT. This retreat will bring together our FPMT community on a scale we have not attempted before … a hugely exciting collective effort, which we pray will promote even greater harmony, cohesion, and understanding between us all. How timely then, that it was FPMT’s 50th anniversary last December! Surely after 50 years, it is now opportune for all of us to come together, as the global organization that FPMT has become, to devote our collective time and effort to Dharma practice and dedicate ourselves to the swift return of Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s unmistaken reincarnation.
The 2026 GLOBAL MANI RETREAT is scheduled to commence on the first day of Saka Dawa month (Sunday, May 17, 2026), and conclude on the final Buddha Day for this year, Lhabab Duchen (Sunday, November 1, 2026). This retreat will be something unprecedented for our global FPMT family. By coming together in fellowship and harmony, we pray to extract the very essence of this precious human rebirth, and dedicate all our efforts for the happiness of all dear sentient beings and for all our holy gurus to remain until the state of enlightenment is achieved.
To be a deeply enriching and powerfully beneficial experience, the GLOBAL MANI RETREAT will comprise several synergistic components, including :
- MAJOR ONLINE TEACHINGS BY HIGH LAMAS: For powerful blessings and inspiration.
- ONLINE GROUP PRACTICE SESSIONS BY TEACHERS DRAWN FROM EVERY REGION OF THE FPMT ORGANIZATION: To build strong family feeling and maintain the retreat’s momentum.
- INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE AT HOME – Participants are encouraged to recite the
Chenrezig sadhana and recite the Mani mantra daily, in their own time and place, for
the duration of this retreat. - GROUP PRACTICE IN A 100 MILLION MANI RETREAT: Participants are encouraged to join the annual 100 MILLION MANI RETREAT hosted by FPMT MONGOLIA, but this is not compulsory. (2026 Mongolia retreat dates have not yet been set.)
FPMT Centers and Study Groups are also welcome to organize their own Mani retreats anytime within this retreat period if they wish, as a further contribution in practice and mantra recitation.
Upon the conclusion of this GLOBAL MANI RETREAT, we will offer the total number of MANI mantras recited to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Details and opportunities will be updated here as they become available.
What an incredible opportunity for the entire FPMT organization to join together in this powerful collection of merit, harmony, and blessings for the entire world!
Chenrezig Mani Retreat Materials Sadhanas and a collection of teachings on the mani sadhana.
Details to come prior to May 17!
Opportunity to report mantras will be added once the retreat begins on May 17.
WHO CAN JOIN THIS FPMT GLOBAL MANI RETREAT?
This retreat is open to all students who meet the minimum requirement of having taken refuge in the Three Jewels.
WHAT IS THE RETREAT FORMAT?
The retreat will consist of the following synergistic components, in order to offer a deeply enriching and powerfully beneficial experience:
- MAJOR ONLINE TEACHINGS BY HIGH LAMAS – For powerful blessings and inspiration.
- ONLINE GROUP PRACTICE SESSIONS BY TEACHERS DRAWN FROM EVERY REGION OF THE FPMT ORGANIZATION – To build strong family feeling and maintain the retreat’s momentum.
- INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE AT HOME – Participants are encouraged to recite the Chenrezig sadhana and recite the Mani mantra daily, in their own time and place, for the duration of this retreat.
- GROUP PRACTICE IN A 100 MILLION MANI RETREAT – Participants are also encouraged to join the annual 100 MILLION MANI RETREAT hosted by FPMT MONGOLIA, but this is not compulsory. We will share further updates once the 2026 Mongolia retreat dates are set.
- Centers and Study Groups are also welcome to organize their own Mani retreats anytime within this retreat period if they wish, as a further contribution in practice and mantra recitation.
WHICH SADHANA WILL WE BE USING?
We will use the “Short Sadhana of the Compassion Buddha, Arya Chenrezig”, as compiled for off-site participants in a 100 Million Mani retreat on the basis of instructions by Lama Zopa Rinpoche.
A link to this Sadhana will be uploaded to the FPMT GLOBAL MANI RETREAT webpage prior to retreat launch.
WHAT IF I CANNOT DO THE SADHANA PRACTICE EVERYDAY?
While you are highly encouraged to complete at least ONE Chenrezig sadhana on every day of the retreat, this is not compulsory. Please just practice as much as you are able to, with the pure motivation to bring benefit to all sentient beings; and, in particular, to dedicate for the swift return of Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche and the success of all his holy projects.
HOW DO I COUNT AND REPORT THE MANI MANTRAS I RECITED?
Only those Mani mantras recited within the practice of the sadhana are to be included in your final count. A link to the “GLOBAL MANI RETREAT Mantra Count” google form will be posted on the FPMT GLOBAL MANI RETREAT webpage upon retreat launch.
As the final day of the Retreat is on 1st November 2026 (Lhabab Duchen), please submit your final mantra counts latest by 8:00am (UTC), 2nd November 2026.
ARE THERE ANY DIET RESTRICTIONS?
Retreat Advisor KHEN RINPOCHE GESHE CHONYI has advised that if you are planning to attend any of the Chenrezig Group Practice sessions, it is highly recommended that you be vegetarian* for that day. Better still, take the 8 Mahayana Precepts on that morning.
For all the other days that you plan to complete at least one Chenrezig sadhana, it is good for you to be vegetarian* at least for the meal that you take prior to the sadhana.
* “Vegetarian” in this case means ”no black foods” in addition to “no meat”. Black foods include garlic, onion, leeks, chives, egg, radish.
HOW CAN WE PARTICIPATE IN THE ONLINE SESSIONS?
All online sessions will be conducted via ZOOM, with meeting link to be posted on the FPMT GLOBAL MANI RETREAT webpage prior to retreat launch.
Livestream to other platforms will also be announced at this time.
CAN WE ACCESS THE RECORDINGS IF WE MISS ANY OF THE ONLINE SESSIONS?
In accordance with advice received, recordings of online sessions will NOT be made available for later viewing.
We therefore encourage you to recognize the amazing preciousness and rarity of this retreat, and make every effort to join the sessions.
WHAT LANGUAGE WILL THE ONLINE SESSIONS BE CONDUCTED IN?
MAJOR TEACHINGS BY HIGH LAMAS: Either TIBETAN (with English translation), or ENGLISH, depending on the lama.
CHENREZIG GROUP PRACTICE SESSIONS: All Group Practice sessions will be conducted in ENGLISH.
For both the Major Teachings & Group Practice sessions, other language translations will be announced in due course.

The translations should not be considered exact and only used as a rough guide. The reason we are unhappy is because we have extreme craving for sense objects – samsaric objects – and we grasp at them. We are seeking to solve our problems, but we are not seeking in the right place. The right place is our ego-grasping.
