You must recognize that your real enemy, the thief who steals your happiness, is the inner thief, the one inside your mind – the one you have cherished since beginningless time. Therefore, make the strong determination to throw him out and never to let him back in.

Animal Liberations for Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s Health
Ven. Roger Kunsang recently requested that all FPMT centers need to begin, or continue, regularly offering animal liberations for Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s health and long life. The Animal Liberation Fund sponsors weekly animal liberations as well as large animal liberations in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Animal liberation is a specific practice done for animals which would otherwise be killed. The practice involves taking the animals-in-danger around holy objects to leave positive imprints in their minds, reciting mantras for them, blessing water to sprinkle onto their bodies, and then releasing them. This differs from general animal blessings which involve blessing any animal with mantras or a holy object. Animal blessings are, of course, wonderful to do for animals, but this is not what is meant by “animal liberations.”
Please refer to Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s full advice for benefitting animals.
“Like yourself, all sentient beings want happiness and no not want suffering, problems or discomfort.” – Lama Zopa Rinpoche
You can order the Liberating Animals hardcopy or eBook from the FPMT Foundation Store.
Rejoice!
Student Fred Cheong of Amitabha Buddhist Centre, Singapore, has to-date organized the liberation of 181.2 million animals for Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s long life. He plans to liberate 200 million animals by end of 2014 and has committed to liberate 10 million animals total for Rinpoche’s health and long life! Please rejoice in this amazing effort and commitment!
You are also welcome to support the Animal Liberation Fund’s efforts to sponsor animal liberations around the world.

Animal Liberation Fund Saving Animals in Singapore
In July the Animal Liberation Fund was very happy to donate SGD$ 2500 (US$2051) toward larger animal liberations that are organized by Fred Cheong and Amitabha Buddhist Centre in Singapore. Prayers and dedication were included for all the donors of the Animal Liberation Fund, as well as those who have requested prayers and are ill.
On His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday, July 6, Amitabha Buddhist Centre liberated 11,000 kg (24,250 lbs) of sea shell, an estimated 1 million lives. On Chokor Duchen, July 12, when merit is multiplied 100 million times, Amitabha Buddhist Centre liberated another 700,000 animals.
Strong prayers and dedications were made for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s long life and to stay with us and guide us, and for all of His Holiness’s prayers and wishes to come true. Dedications were also made for the long life and perfect health of Lama Zopa Rinpoche and for all of Rinpoche’s wishes and prayers to succeed.
Animal Liberation practice is one of the practices that have been recently advised as important to do for Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s health and long life.
Please rejoice in all the lives saved and thank you to all the kind donors, Fred Cheong and the students of Amitabha Buddhist Center who help to make all this possible.
The Animal Liberation Fund continues to support smaller weekly animal liberations, with strong prayers, by the Sangha at Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s house.

Sangha Offer Animal Liberations Every Week for Those Who are Sick
Lama Zopa Rinpoche has requested the Sangha at his house to do the practice of animal liberation every week dedicated to anyone who is sick or having life obstacles.
Each week the Sangha liberate up to 1,000 animals with the animal liberation practice, taking the animals around the stupa or holy objects at
Rinpoche’s house, reciting mantras and blessing them with mantra water before they are carefully liberated in a safe place.Extensive prayers are made for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Lama Zopa Rinpoche and all our kind teachers, the Sangha and anyone who is sick and requesting prayers.
This is something amazing to rejoice in, and something you can make offerings toward, especially if you are sick or would like to offer on behalf of someone else who is sick. Any extra money remaining in the fund is offered toward larger animal liberations held in Singapore and Hong Kong.

April 2013: Lama Zopa Rinpoche and the Lama Zopa Rinpoche Bodhichitta Fund recently donated US$30,000 for the complete renovation of a school kitchen at the Central School for Tibetans in Bylakuppe in South India.
The school was established in 1971 and caters to children of nearby Tibetan settlements. The school has 350 students and 32 teaching and non-teaching staff. Over the years the
school has constantly achieved good academics. Besides emphasizing excellence in its academic program, the school stresses equal importance on the all around development of the students. Activities such as sports, literary activities, music, dance, and more are offered. The school also emphasizes the preservation and promotion of Tibetan culture and positive values among the students through a series of initiatives including inviting eminent speakers and participating in various functions and festivals in the settlement. In 2010 His Holiness the Dalai Lama met with the children from this and other Tibetan schools in the area.

April 16, 2013: Lama Zopa Rinpoche and the Lama Zopa Rinpoche Bodhichitta Fund are very happy to offer US$100,000 toward new classrooms being built at Sera Je Monastery, India. (Photos, right, from April 2013.)
The Sera Je Monastery Secretary, Geshe Thupten Monlam, explains that the classroom will initially be used for debate classes so the monks won’t be disturbed by rain and or too much sun.
The classrooms will also primarily be used to teach subjects such as science and other fields of knowledge within the monastic curriculum. This is a direct request from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and is a long term objective of Sera Je Monastery to be in line with the vision and recommendations of His Holiness The Dalai Lama in integrating this kind of study into the monastic education
The classroom building facility is planned to be complete in time for the upcoming visit of His Holiness The Dalai Lama in July 2013.

February 2013: The Lama Zopa Rinpoche Bodhichitta Fund and the Tibetan Health Services Fund donated US$5,677 (300,000 irs) towards the Tashi Lhunpo Health Care Center. The Tashi Lhunpo Health Care Center is extremely important in providing quality health care since 1992 to the monks of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery and local Tibetans and Indians in the area.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche was very inspired by their work and wanted to make this donation.
We just received this kind message from Tashi Lhunpo Health Care Center regarding how the donation is being used:
“First of all we would like to convey our heartfelt greetings and gratitude for your kind support. Because of your financial support we were able to buy sufficient medicine, and also hepatitis syringes which are very expensive.”

Amdo Eye Hospital Update
January 2013: Ven. Roger Kunsang and Frances Howland met with Dr. Ruit to discuss FPMT’s Tibet Heath Services Project and its ongoing aims, as well as reviewing the Amdo Eye Hospital and future plans for possible eye camps.
Due to the situation in the area we are not able to arrange a big scale eye camp at this time, but within a year we hope to be able to arrange this with Dr. Ruit. These eye camps provide up to 500-700 surgeries. The cost to arrange an eye camp of this scale is US$40,000 and we are currently raising funds for this.
In the meantime, the Amdo Eye Hospital is still able to do smaller scale remote eye camps where up to 30-35 eye surgeries are performed every three or four months.
In 2012 the Amdo Eye Hospital was able to perform over 578 eye surgeries and it is envisioned that 2013 will bring much more.
