Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition
The FPMT is an organization devoted to preserving and spreading Mahayana Buddhism worldwide by creating opportunities to listen, reflect, meditate, practice and actualize the unmistaken teachings of the Buddha and based on that experience spreading the Dharma to sentient beings. We provide integrated education through which people’s minds and hearts can be transformed into their highest potential for the benefit of others, inspired by an attitude of universal responsibility and service. We are committed to creating harmonious environments and helping all beings develop their full potential of infinite wisdom and compassion. Our organization is based on the Buddhist tradition of Lama Tsongkhapa of Tibet as taught to us by our founders Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.

Altruism Versus Co-dependency
“Altruism is the attitude that regards the happiness and well-being of another as even more important than one’s own well-being. It’s an attitude of a very brave person, someone who is willing to give up their own happiness for the happiness of another. A co-dependent is not like that.” From Mandala August 2006, “Altruism Versus Co-dependency,” by Tubten Pende.

Flying: Yangsi Rinpoche’s latest post in Maitripa College’s Enlighten Me! blog
“So life is exactly like that. When things are turbulent and scary, and we find ourselves in unknown territory, out of our comfort zones, we should remain calm, and move forward with softness and gentleness. We should not cause interference with our expectations and dissatisfaction, we should not create drama with our fears and reactions. We should remain gentle, and vigilant, and move our focus with intention from one object of focus to another, internally and externally, giving each equal attention and care, adjusting with a gentle touch where we can be of benefit.”
— From Yangsi Rinpoche’s latest post, “Flying,” from Maitripa College’s Enlighten Me! blog.

Vegan Pumpkin “Cheesecake” Recipe
Eating is such a common activity that we often forget that it also has the potential to be a powerful way to benefit ourselves and others. With a proper motivation, cooking and eating really can transform food into spiritual fuel.
The online content for the October-December 2011 issue of Mandala featured a vegan dessert recipe by Ven. Gyalten Lekden (formerly, Tsültrim Davis), former spiritual program coordinator at Kurukulla Center in Massachusetts, U.S., perfect for any time when large squash, like pumpkins, are readily available.
From Mandala October-December 2011.

The craving mind, however, projects onto an object something that is beyond the relative level, which has nothing to do with that object. That mind is hallucinating, deluded and holding the wrong entity.
